PRIMAVERA IN BLACK FESTIVAL 2016

The Primavera in Black Festival (Black Spring Festival) 2016 was large crowded on Friday 22 and Sunday 24 April, but on Saturday 23 the rain obliged to cancel the concert of Keith Dunn that fortunatelly was postposed till Sunday afternoon. The festival is supported by the City Council of L’Hospitalet de LLobregat, the Library of Can Sumarro, Bad Music and Barcelona Blues Society (SBB).

We would like to thank sincerely to each and every one of the volunteers who  made possible the organization of Primavera in Black 2016, by participating in the association (SBB) and sharing their time, efforts and good vibes. The atmosphere was really fantastic and it was very gratifying to see young and old people enjoying the music. We received our colleagues from other associations such as Ruby Blues Society, the Society of Blues of Cerdanyola and also some representatives of Capper Benicassim. Thank you very much to all the musicians who played on the festival and to those who came to join it.

The Barcelona Blues Society continues to support the blues and for the next activity will invite to Barcelona one of the pioneers of blues in Europe, Mr. Jacques Morgantini (92 years) who is the center of the documentary “Mémoire de Blues” by Jacques Gasser. On this film it is shown how the Morgantini’s family welcomed into their home the early bluesmen that played in Europe and how they recorded them by offering their support. On 26 May at 19h in the Auditorium of the Institute of American Studies (IEN) we will have the pleasure to share an evening with Jacques Morgantini, Jacques Gasser, Ricard Gili, Juan Pérez Aznar, Miguel Abella and Big Mama Montse. The event will be supported by the SBB, the Fundació Privada Jazz Clàssic and by the IEN and it will start and end with a concert by Johnny Big Stone & Sweet Marta.

Cultural activities continue at the Tecla Sala Central Library  on May 5, 2016 with the conference “Jukebox Sessions” conducted by Manolo Lopez Poy at 19pm, where there is the exhibition of Juan Manuel “Tito” Vera about blues in the small venues of Cerdanyola, with which the artist claims the lack of institutional support for the blues clubs. Until April 30.

We also have the pleasure to announce the fifth issue of the publication of the Blues Funds of Tecla Sala Library, “Fons Blues” (in Catalan language), which is available on this link:

And we announce too that A Contra Blues are celebrating their 10th Anniversary and that they want to do it with a big party at the Sala Apolo in Barcelona on May 12, 2016, 21h, room 2, by offering a discount on the purchase of the entrance at the box office for 12 € for members of the SBB and also for the students of the Barcelona Blues School, by presenting the respective cards.
