We are pleased to announce that on Wednesdays next June (except June 24th due to the San Juan holiday) at 7:00 PM, the SBB in collaboration with the Tecla Sala Library (Avda. Josep Tarradellas Joan 44, Hospitalet) and the Hospitalet City Council, organizes a series of musical lectures featuring genre specialists and live music, under the general title “Blues X Tu”.

“Blues in Black on White” with journalist and writer Manuel López Poy (lecture in Spanish)
Since Júcar publishing house translated Philippe Bas-Rabérin’s work “Le blues moderne” in 1963, and Coruña-born journalist Nonito Pereira published “En la cresta de la música. Del blues hasta el rock” in 1976 which is considered the first homegrown work on blues, the literary landscape devoted to the genre remained an absolute wasteland until the 21st century.Over the last 20 years, this situation has completely reversed, and now at least four or five books are published each year.
This session offers a way to approach blues culture through the lens of the publishing world.

“The 1960s: The British Blues Explosion” with musician, writer, and translator Ricard Gil
A lecture on the origins, history, and significance of the blues explosion in the United Kingdom during the first half of the 1960s. An avalanche of young musicians, centered in London, adopted African-American music as a means of expression, creating an underground scene that moved thousands of people. In doing so, they revived the careers of many bluesmen who were struggling and forgotten in their own country, laying the foundations for the most popular rock bands of the following decade.
